Ultra-Bright Bathroom Furniture On a Budget
If you’re the kind of person who likes a splash of colour in their life, then your eyes might begin to glaze over as you think about shopping for new bathroom furniture. Stores filled with plain white cabinets and natural wood vanity units just don’t do it for you.But bathroom furniture in bright colours and ultra-modern shapes is available more and more widely as designers play around with non-traditional shapes and materials. Using modern materials, designers can realise forms that have been traditionally impossible to achieve; contemporary consumer demands are broad and challenging, inspiring further creativity.
Dornob.com recently featured some fantastical dream homes, commenting that practicing architects could learn from “periodic forays into fantastical and physically impossible design” and should stretch their boundaries to discover new possibilities. The same seems to go for bathroom furniture designers.
Unfortunately, many of these contemporary products are pretty expensive, and they can be hard to come by as well. To help you achieve a riotously colourful and ultra-modern bathroom on a budget, we’ve put our heads together and come up with a few simple tips…
Don’t splash a different colour on every wall: stick with one or two, and use other colours in small does to accentuate features around the bathroom. Bathroom paint is cheaper than tiles and you can apply it yourself without learning any new techniques, so plan for a number of painted surfaces when you’re designing your new bathroom.
Black and white bathroom furniture will both look striking against bright colours, so think about buying simple units and fitting them to a brightly painted wall. Alternatively, custom paint existing bathroom furniture, newly bought basic pieces, or second hand finds. Laminated cabinets won’t take paint well, but old wooden or wood veneered cabinets are ripe for redecoration.
Use handles to add interest to basic bathroom furniture. Bright handles, glass handles, ornate handles… they all serve to break up a plain space and give the eye something to focus on.
Bathroom furniture in a dark wood will contrast beautifully with brilliant colours such as lime green. If you can afford to spend a little extra, go for wall mounted walnut veneered vanity units and cabinets and fit them to a lime green wall. White tiles and bathroom fittings such as bath, toilet and basin will make the colours zing, and you can add bright accessories around the room.
Shop around and look online at suppliers such as Better Bathrooms to save cash on fitted bathroom furniture that you can then spend on paint, tiles, or a large shower or freestanding bath (or just on a weekend away or a meal for two in your favourite restaurant!)
